30 hour famine

Right now, more than 840 million people around the world don’t have enough to eat. Annually, more than 9 million children under the age of five die from disease and malnutrition as a result of hunger. But world hunger is 100% preventable. Are you ready to be part of the solution?

This May, we will be joining the efforts of hundreds of thousands of young people all over the nation who will set aside the usual “stuff” that fills our daily lives. Instead, we “WILL STARVE FOR FOOD” – the theme for World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine this year -- by going without food for 30 hours to get a taste of what the world’s poorest children and families face everyday. Prior to the event weekend, we will raise funds with the knowledge that every $30 we raise can help feed and care for a child for a month. We will also being encouraging canned food donations too.

To participate pick up donation packets from Liberty Church PCA and get sponsors. We will begin our fast at 1pm on Thursday April 30th. After fasting we will gather at Liberty Christian School’s gym at 11303 Liberty rd. Owings Mills, MD at 7pm on May 1st to break our fast together over a meal. Participants will be asked to bring a canned good as the price of admission. Afterwards we’ll be engaging in several games to build hunger awareness. We’ll be calculating how much money was raised to help feed the hungry and then spending the night at the church and school.

Funds raised by 30 Hour Famine participants help feed and care for children in poverty-afflicted countries around the globe. Additionally, a portion of funds raised support World Vision’s efforts to assist families in need in the United States. 30 Hour Famine funds contribute to World Vision’s response in areas where famine, conflict, and other crises make children vulnerable to hunger and preventable disease. Since 1992, 30 Hour Famine has raised more than $118 million, representing countless saved lives. World Vision works in 100 countries, helping approximately 100 million people every year.

For more information and to pick up a donation packet contact Nick Hathaway at 410-655-5466 (office) or 443-286-5886 (cell)

X-Factor: Handball

Sunday April 19th 7-8:30pm Come play a game you've never played before, "Handball." Before there was basketball, there was...Handball.

In Handball you try to throw a micro-soccer ball into a hockey goal sized net protected by a goalie in a gym.

You may only hold onto the ball 3 seconds or 3 steps and then you must dribble it, pass it, or shoot it. You may not enter the crease. You may not charge. You may not foul. You may not set an illegal screen. You may...have lots of fun playing a game you've never played before.

Tourney play in teams of 6, first team to 3 goals wins.

We'll be playing handball in the gym and then talking more about how to interpret the bible.
