Softball and Cuatro de Mayo

This weekend we'll be having our mini-missions conference. We won't be having youth sunday school this sunday instead we'll all be meeting in the sanctuary to hear from our missionaries.
We will be having Youth Group at 7pm where we'll play some softball as the weather allows. So please bring a mitt and bat if you have one. We'll play on the soccer field.

May 4th from 6-7pm in the fellowship hall we'll be having our Chattanooga Fundraising Dinner called "Cuatro de Mayo." We'll be be having a Fajita dinner served by the youth mission team. So please come and support your missionaries and give us a chance to serve you.  We'll spend a little time telling you about how the kingdom is advancing in Chattanooga and a little time trying to get your support.

30 hour Famine and Chattanooga Dinner

Those who are doing 30 hour famine: Remember to contact friends, family, and church members to get donations to raise money to feed the hungry. I've had several church members tell me they're just waiting to be approached about supporting fasters. Please contact folks to ask for donations. If you still need a donation sheet come by the church office.

Begin your fast from food (or modified fast for those with health issues) at 12 noon on Friday. Because of lack of volunteers we will not be holding a sleepover on Friday night. Instead, arrive at the church at 8am on Saturday so that we can travel down to Grace EP in Davidsonville to listen to Covenant Seminary Professor Jerram Barrs talk about "Who is my neighbor?" We will return to church at 1 pm. Then we will do activities at the church until 6pm. Parents, come at 6pm with an entree or salad to share. We will break our fast from 6pm to 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. (Also, if you'd like you can bring a small donation to Grace EP for letting us attend their conference.)

Cuatro de Mayo! Mark your calendars for the Chattanooga Fundraising Dinner here at the church on May 4th. We'll be serving Mexican style dishes and raising money for our Mission Trip. Meal to start at 6pm.

News Flash and Date Change

Friday night is the showing of the movie Courageous and we could still use some volunteers to babysit with us. We'll be meeting in the nursery at 5pm and perhaps going until 10pm. Food will be provided.

Upcoming Events

March 11th X-Factor: Volleyball will be happening this Sunday night from 7-8:30pm. This event is for middle and high schoolers to grow in their understanding of theology and have some fun while doing it. Friends are always welcome, snacks are always appreciated, and parents are always welcome to stay. We'll be continuing to discuss Pnuematology or the study of the Holy Spirit. We'll be presenting the argument for why the Spirit is God.

March 18th FISH: Fellowship in Student's Homes. 7-9pm This is a time for high school students to become equipped to share their faith. Please bring your journal, a pen, your bible, and a snack or dessert to share. The Mitchell's have kindly agreed to host:

March 24th Serve the City: We'll begin at the church at 8am and head down to the city to gather with other volunteers before heading out to our site to serve Baltimore. We'll rendezvous in the city for an early catered dinner and be back at the church by 5:30pm. Suggested donation is $20 to offset the costs of t-shirts, lining up work, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Bring gloves and work shoes.

March 25th X-Factor: Dodgeball. 7-8:30 for 6-12th graders. Bring your crew, your pads, and some dodge ball attitude. We'll be continuing our study of the Holy Spirit as we talk about gifts.

March 25th $50 Mission Trip deposit due. Because Fairmont ran out of room as did my second choice, we'll be heading back to Chattanooga with great delight. Paul and the crew are looking forward to working with us again. This trip is not only a great chance to get away and do urban ministry but its also a great chance to work on deepening your understanding of the gospel of reconciliation. We'll also throw in a free college visit to the denomination's premiere learning institution, Covenant College. The total cost of the trip is $400 but please don't let money be an issue because we'll do some fundraising. Parents, friends, and older folk from church are welcome to come too. Please let me know as soon as possible if you're interested in going. 30 hour famine donation packets available now. We'll be actually fasting on April 20th. On the 21st we'll have an awesome opportunity to hear teaching from Professor Jerram Barrs. Please make this a priority in your schedule even if you can't actually fast or you don't actually raise money. Plan on being there. Parents, I'll need help transporting folks on Saturday to the conference in Anne Arundel County.

Leave your electronics behind and enjoy the fun and fellowship of Liberty’s annual Spring Charge. We call it a charge because we’re not retreating, from our problems, but charging up on biblical truth that will equip us to charge forth into life with new spirit.

Who: 6th-12 graders. Bring a friend, neighbor, a relative. They won’t regret coming with you.

What: Bring warm clothes, toiletries, sleeping bag and pillow, Bible, pen and notepad. And $5.

Holy Ghost!!!

I’ve heard about Jesus and I think I know who God the Father is but who, or what, is the Holy Spirit?

Is the Holy Spirit that important? What does the Holy Spirit do?

Is the Holy Spirit like a ghost or more like the Force in Star Wars?

Is the Holy Spirit less of an ‘it’ and more of a ‘he?’

Are fruits of the Spirit real or just made up? Should I see them?

Participation Agreement

I acknowledge that participation in the activity described above involves risk to the Participant (and to Participant’s parents or guardians, if Participant is a minor), and may result in various types of injury including, but not limited to the following: sickness, bodily injury, death, emotional injury, personal injury, property damage and financial damage. Jared Havener: was a youth intern with Liberty Church PCA in the summer of 2009. He did a magnificent job of connecting with youth, engaging with them through sports and activities, and teaching them on a weekly basis in small groups and through talks. Jared’s talks on world religions could have sufficed for college lectures they were so full of content. And yet his demeanor and style communicate even to middle school students in such a way that they can grow in their understanding and be challenged.

Jared lives outside of Pittsburgh and is currently working and going to graduate school at Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He recently married his great friend Kelsey who is beginning a career in occupational therapy

Jared loves soccer and played for Lancaster Bible College. He was a passionate fps gamer. Currently his hobbies are spending time with his wife, hanging out with the youth group, and reading the heaviest theology he can get his hands on.
